The USFL may have only played for three seasons, but what memorable seasons they were! Originally comprised of just twelve teams, the league's early success led to six new teams in its second season, but by the third season(1985) competition from the NFL proved to be too much for the USFL to handle.
Many of the league's young players(Herschel Walker, Doug Flutie, Reggie White) went on to star in the NFL, and many coaches(Marv Levy, Steve Spurrier) went on to excel in the college and pro ranks. The USFL sued the NFL, and in 1986 won their suit for an incredible $1.
